30 hours per week | Term time only | Monday to Friday, four working days | 9:00 am – 5:30 pm | £16,643.60 per annum | 12 Month Fixed Term Contract
Our client is seeking a SEND Support Worker to join their early years setting and provide dedicated one-to-one support to a child with additional needs.
This is a 12-month fixed-term contract, with the potential for the successful candidate to continue supporting other children with SEND within the setting.
The role will focus on helping the child access learning, develop independence and participate fully in the life of the setting. You will work closely with the Early Education Manager, SENCO, parents/carers and external professionals to support the child's social, emotional, physical and educational development.
This is a dedicated one-to-one role and is additional to the setting's general nursery staffing provision.
The Role
As a SEND Support Worker, you will provide tailored one-to-one support to an individual child, helping them to participate in learning, play, routines and social experiences.
You will support the child's physical development, independence and wellbeing while following their individual support and care plans. You will also work collaboratively with the wider team to ensure that professional recommendations are consistently incorporated into everyday practice.
The successful candidate will be expected to build a secure, trusting relationship with the child and provide patient, responsive and encouraging support that enables them to develop their skills and confidence.
Key Responsibilities
Learning and Development
- Support the implementation of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), ensuring the child can access learning across all prime and specific areas of learning.
- Provide tailored one-to-one support to enable the child to participate fully in planned, purposeful play and child-initiated activities.
- Support the child's physical development, including gross motor skills such as mobility, coordination, balance and spatial awareness.
- Support fine motor development, including hand strength, grip, early writing skills and the use of tools and resources.
- Assist with planning and delivering activities that reflect the child's individual learning and development needs.
- Observe the child's interests, strengths and progress and contribute to identifying appropriate next steps.
- Support the setting's Reggio Emilia-inspired approach to learning, recognising children as capable and curious learners.
- Work in accordance with the EYFS and the SEND Code of Practice.
Individual Support and Care
- Provide appropriate support with daily routines, transitions and activities, promoting safety, independence and emotional wellbeing.
- Support personal care needs sensitively and respectfully, promoting dignity, independence and self-care skills.
- Follow the child's individual care plans, risk assessments and agreed routines.
- Follow exercise and movement programmes recommended by physiotherapists and other relevant professionals, within the scope of training provided.
- Complete relevant training relating to the child's individual needs, which may include feeding, medication, mobility and safe movement.
- Follow professional guidance and agreed procedures when providing physical or personal care support.
- Advocate for the child's needs, preferences and participation, ensuring their voice and communication are considered in everyday practice.
