SHEQ Assistant | Preston, Lancashire | Full Time | £32,000 to £35,000 DOE
Our client is a leading manufacturer of moulded plastic products, operating across the vehicle, fire and environmental safety markets.
They are a market leader in several European countries and export products to over 60 countries worldwide. The business operates from a manufacturing site and distribution site in Preston, Lancashire, employing around 155 people, with a subsidiary in France.
The Role
They are looking for a SHEQ Assistant to support the SHEQ department with customer issues, quality activities and health, safety, environmental and compliance requirements.
The role is varied and will involve responding to the areas requiring the most attention across the business. The successful candidate will also be required to handle certain subjects involving personal data, so discretion and confidentiality are essential.
The role is based in Preston, Lancashire, and candidates must be within commuting distance.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain systems supporting ISO quality standards
- Assist in managing policies and processes
- Work with internal teams to ensure procedures and documentation remain current
- Support customer complaints, root cause analysis and non-conformance reporting
- Assist with customer feedback activities
- Audit suppliers for documentation, licences, insurance and compliance
- Administer compliance documents, policies and online systems
- Coordinate with external partners on health and safety checks, fire assessments and risk assessments
- Support first aid and fire warden duties
- Record fire drills, emergency lighting checks and safety inspections
- Manage accreditation documentation
- Identify and flag potential risks to management
- Support the SHEQ Manager during audits and spot checks
- Maintain safety records, incident logs and waste compliance licences
- Support environmental accreditations and sustainability initiatives
- Assist internal teams with SHEQ queries
- Raise purchase orders when authorised
- Follow business policies and role-specific procedures
- Support ad-hoc projects as required
Requirements
Essential
- Minimum 5 GCSEs or equivalent
- IOSH, NEBOSH or other relevant SHEQ qualifications or experience
- Experience in a similar role
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to influence
- Able to use Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Good organisational skills
- Tenacious approach
- Excellent attention to detail
- Good collaboration skills
Desirable
- Plastics manufacturing or other factory exposure
- First aid and/or fire warden certification
- Auditing experience
- Managing Accreditation experience
- Project management experience
