Senior Hydraulic Modeller | Cork, Dublin or Limerick | Full Time | 10am - 3pm, 37.5 Hours, Flexible | Hybrid | €50,000 - €70,000 per annum DOE

The Role

With a background in hydraulic modelling, you will principally work on a range of flood risk projects, ranging from detailed flood mapping studies to flood mitigation strategies and appraisal, hydromorphology/fluvial geomorphology, nature-based solutions and climate change adaptation.

You will work alongside engineering and design teams, collaborating on projects in Ireland and internationally. These projects make a difference to local communities and the environment, serving public and private sector clients including regulators, local authorities and water utilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take a technical leadership role in ensuring flood management project deliverables meet client needs and the highest quality standards
  • Work with senior staff to develop medium and long-term strategies for existing workstreams and identify areas for expansion
  • Champion technical innovation and demonstrate and disseminate the latest methodologies and tools
  • Liaise with clients, hydraulic modellers, project managers and design and management teams
  • Mentor and support the technical development of less experienced colleagues
  • Provide modelling-related technical input to business development activities
  • Work with Data Science teams to identify opportunities for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning across the modelling discipline
  • Support project management and client management activities, with potential to develop a team around the successful candidate following the initial learning curve

Requirements

Essential

  • Robust experience in hydraulic modelling, including urban and rural environments using 1D, 2D or 1D-2D techniques for fluvial and surface water systems
  • Experience with hydraulic modelling software such as TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, Flood Modeller, Infoworks-ICM and MIKE+
  • Understanding and experience of fluvial and surface water flood risk policy, management approaches and options appraisal
  • Ability to deliver innovative solutions to complex hydraulic challenges
  • Project management experience, including oversight of hydrological, hydraulic and environmental inputs across flood risk management projects
  • Proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS and MapInfo, together with experience working with terrain models and topographic survey data
  • Experience of collaborative working with effective interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with clients, stakeholders and colleagues
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to support team development and work effectively across different project teams and remote offices
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in civil engineering or environmental/earth sciences
  • Experience of liaising with clients, managing projects and supporting business development
  • Commercial awareness and evidence of delivering projects and bids to time and
