Our client is an award-winning specialist independent school and alternative provision that offers a creative and engaging curriculum for children in South London. 

They are looking for a Teaching Assistant/Learning Mentor who will provide teaching, mentoring and progression support to students. 

This is a term-time position with an immediate start. You will be working up to 5 days a week, between the hours of 8.45 am – 4 pm. 

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant/Learning Mentor, you will provide teaching, mentoring and progression support to pupils, helping them develop their skills, confidence and positive relationships. You will work with pupils in small groups, support teachers with accredited courses and help create a safe, engaging and supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working with pupils in small groups
  • Helping pupils with study skills, revision and examination techniques
  • Supporting anti-bullying strategies and encouraging pupils to build constructive relationships with staff and fellow students
  • Supporting enjoyable activities that will increase young people's skills and confidence
  • Supporting young people in organising their own activities and projects
  • Supporting projects relating to issues like health awareness, the environment, bullying, truancy, substance misuse or crime
  • Helping young people to deal with challenges affecting their learning and work

  • Supporting student participation and encouraging them to voice their opinions and suggestions
  • Preparing and maintaining course equipment, premises and classrooms, and with the administrative assistant, booking students onto courses
  • Preparing, distributing and collecting registration forms and other data from clients
  • Supporting the teacher and Head of Learning in the delivery of accredited courses
  • Maintaining the security and safety of course and classroom equipment
  • Assisting the teacher with the preparation, recording and mastering of musical materials produced in the classroom

Requirements

Essential

Desirable

  • Knowledge of cooking, gardening, art and design, music production software or media production
  • Knowledge of video production, radio broadcasting, web design or animation software
  • Knowledge of special educational needs, such as autism and ADHD
