Personal Tax Assistant
Location: Crosby
Job Type: Full-time, office-based
Working Hours: 35 hours per week, generally 9 am-5 pm with an hour for lunch. Flexible start and finish times are available.
Salary: £27,000 - £30,000 per annum, DOE
Our client is a well-established accountancy practice based in Crosby, offering a supportive environment where you will have the opportunity to develop a long-term career within tax.
You will join a small tax team where you will receive hands-on training and mentoring from experienced tax professionals, allowing you to develop your skills and progress your career within tax.
The Role
This role is ideal for a Personal Tax Assistant with experience in personal tax who is looking to develop their career, broaden their technical knowledge, and gain exposure to corporate tax.
Initially, the role will focus mainly on personal tax compliance, preparing personal tax returns and liaising with clients regarding tax information.
As your experience develops, you will receive training and support to build your corporate tax knowledge, progressing into Corporation Tax returns, tax planning techniques, and broader tax advisory work over time.
This is an office-based role in Crosby to provide the necessary training, supervision, and support. Some overtime may be required during busy periods, particularly around the January self-assessment deadline.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare personal tax returns
- Assist with corporate tax compliance
- Liaise with clients regarding tax information
- Maintain accurate client records
- Support senior members of the tax team
- Develop knowledge of corporate tax returns through training and mentoring
- Progress into reviewing Corporation Tax returns
- Learn about tax planning techniques
- Develop into broader tax advisory work over time
Requirements
Essential
- Previous experience within an accountancy practice
- Around 2 year’s experience in personal tax
- Basic knowledge of personal taxation
- Strong attention to detail
- Good communication skills
- Willingness to learn and develop
- Reliable with excellent attendance
- Ability to use software confidently
Desirable
- ATT qualification, studying towards ATT, or another tax qualification
- Experience using software such as CCH or Xero
- Knowledge of corporate tax
- Accounts or bookkeeping experience combined with good tax knowledge
