Established in 1982, our client provides a sub-contract engineering service, specialising in both machining and fabrication, to a wide variety of industry sectors. With a strong reputation for quality and reliability, they are now looking to recruit an experienced Fitter-Turner / Toolmaker to join their skilled workshop team.

This is a hands-on machining role, and the successful candidate will be responsible for programming and setting CNC machines, carrying out CNC milling and turning operations, and producing precision-engineered components effectively and efficiently.

What will your role look like?

  • Working as part of a team in a busy, sub-contract workshop
  • Reporting directly to the Works Manager
  • Programming and setting CNC Lathes and Machining Centres to produce a wide variety of parts
  • Performing CNC turning and CNC milling operations, including machine setup, tooling selection, and program adjustments
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings to manufacture components to specification
  • Inspecting finished components to ensure quality and customer requirements are achieved
  • Ensuring parts are manufactured to the customer’s specification in an efficient manner

Are you the right person for the job?

Essential Requirements

  • Completed a recognised engineering apprenticeship
  • Minimum 3 years post-qualification experience within a sub-contract machining environment
  • Proven experience in CNC turning and CNC milling
  • Experience programming and setting CNC lathes and machining centres
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Experience inspecting finished components to ensure customer specifications are achieved
  • Good working knowledge of CNC machining equipment
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards

Desirable Requirements

  • Fitter-Turner or Toolmaker qualification
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software
  • Experience with manual machining equipment
  • Experience manufacturing a wide variety of precision-engineered components
  • Previous experience working across multiple industry sectors
  • Knowledge of fabrication processes in addition to machining
  • Additional experience within a fast-paced subcontract engineering environment
