Established in 1982, our client provides a sub-contract engineering service, specialising in both machining and fabrication, to a wide variety of industry sectors. With a strong reputation for quality and reliability, they are now looking to recruit an experienced Fitter-Turner / Toolmaker to join their skilled workshop team.
This is a hands-on machining role, and the successful candidate will be responsible for programming and setting CNC machines, carrying out CNC milling and turning operations, and producing precision-engineered components effectively and efficiently.
What will your role look like?
- Working as part of a team in a busy, sub-contract workshop
- Reporting directly to the Works Manager
- Programming and setting CNC Lathes and Machining Centres to produce a wide variety of parts
- Performing CNC turning and CNC milling operations, including machine setup, tooling selection, and program adjustments
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings to manufacture components to specification
- Inspecting finished components to ensure quality and customer requirements are achieved
- Ensuring parts are manufactured to the customer’s specification in an efficient manner
Are you the right person for the job?
Essential Requirements
- Completed a recognised engineering apprenticeship
- Minimum 3 years post-qualification experience within a sub-contract machining environment
- Proven experience in CNC turning and CNC milling
- Experience programming and setting CNC lathes and machining centres
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Experience inspecting finished components to ensure customer specifications are achieved
- Good working knowledge of CNC machining equipment
- Ability to work independently and use initiative
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
Desirable Requirements
- Fitter-Turner or Toolmaker qualification
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software
- Experience with manual machining equipment
- Experience manufacturing a wide variety of precision-engineered components
- Previous experience working across multiple industry sectors
- Knowledge of fabrication processes in addition to machining
- Additional experience within a fast-paced subcontract engineering environment
