POSITION: Advice and Support Officer (ASO)

SALARY: £20,000 – £20,683 PA (subject to experience)

BENEFITS: Company pension, development and training and other benefits (see below)

HOURS: 37 Hours per week, including evening and weekends where necessary

LOCATION: Croydon, CR0 1QG

DESCRIPTION:

Established in 1981, our client is both a charity, and not for profit organisation, who specialise in helping to reduce homelessness of young people and vulnerable adults. The charity’s mission is to enable young people to have a safe place to call home and to access opportunities to have the best chance in life. Based in South London the organisation is now seeking to expand its model of care and support, across London and further afield, in the South of England.

The charity is seeking a talented individual to join as an Advice and Support Officer (ASO). This role is an exciting opportunity to actively make a real difference in the lives of young and vulnerable adults. Working as an Advice and Support Officer (ASO) you must ensure that the service users are informed and signed up to the right tenancy agreement, inducted into their accommodation and steps taken to help them refrain from rent arrears.

JOB ROLE:

  • To Participate in the selection, interviewing and assessment of service users/householders and to gather information about them in accordance with procedure. 

  • To inspire and guide young people to improve their life skills, self-management, self-confidence and wellbeing. 

  • To ensure that all who undertake the charities guidance is informed on all relevant ‘Supported living’ information. Information on rent, service charges, housing benefit, move on, stay period, house rules. 

  • To help young people to achieve their goals and independence whilst maintaining the outcomes as described by the ‘Every Child Matters’ green paper and the child protection principles in / Children’s Act 1989

  • To advise the tenant on how to maintain their tenancy/licence agreement and consequences should the breach it. 

  • To consult with service users and involve them in the decoration, furnishing and maintenance of their accommodation. 

  • Work with young and vulnerable adults to support all aspects of the rent and rent arears sustainment. 

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • Experience of working in a Supported Housing setting and associated Health and Safety practices.

  • Knowledge and understanding of Housing Law, specifically Supported Housing legislation, including rents and tenancy agreements. 

  • Knowledge of Child protection and the Children’s Act 1989 and Adult safeguarding responsibilities in line with the Local Authority.

  • Qualified to level 3 in Health and Social Care/ Children’s and Young People/ Youth work or Information Advice and Guidance or equivalent. 

  • Ability to work as a team member and on own initiative when needed. 

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing at all levels. 

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. 

  • Experience of appropriate support and advice to young people and work effectively with service users to achieve their goals. 

  • IT Literate, skills in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word etc.).

  • It is desirable to have a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

  • Flexible to work evening and weekends when necessary.

  • Live within a commutable distance and have the right to work in the UK.
